How to create the perfect summer make-up base

Last Updated : 15 October 2019

Summer is officially here, and for the majority of us ladies that means switching up our makeup routine. We say goodbye to the smoky eye and we opt for a lighter, more natural summer look.

We thought it would be fun to share our perfect summer make-up base on our YouTube channel, Voucher Codes Pro, so you guys can check it out. Whilst you’re there have a look at our other awesome videos.

We asked the brilliant hair and makeup artist Lucie Richmond, to come in and give the Voucher Codes Pro girls a makeover. This look is beautiful and looks effortless, so it’s perfect for bridal makeup, proms and even an everyday look. It’s not too heavy either which is ideal for this time of year.

What was used:

Primer
x 2 Concealers one 3 shades lighter, and one 3 shades darker
Light reflecting concealer
Foundation
White translucent setting powder
A range of brushes

Step 1:

Get your primer and apply an even layer on your face with a foundation brush. By doing this it provides a smooth base for your makeup to glide onto. This will help seal your makeup and make it last for longer. It’s best to use a brush when applying because it’s more hygienic than using your fingers.

Step 2:

Take your foundation which matches your skin tone and pop a blob on the back of your hand. By doing this it helps warm it up, and makes it easier to apply an even layer. You want to do this in long continuous sweeps over the face, making sure you do under the chin and your eyelids.

Step 3:

Contouring is a great way of defining cheek bones and making the face look slimmer.Get a concealer which is three shades darker than your natural every day one. By choosing a darker one, this shadows the face and gives the illusion of a narrower frame and more defined cheekbones.

How to contour

Select a smaller brush and draw lines under the cheekbones, down the side of the nose, the chin and above the eyebrows.

Step 4:

Get a lighter concealer and use it as a highlighter on the cheeks, around the lips and eyes.

Step 5:

It’s time to blend away! Get your foundation brush and do each section and then blend it in nicely so there’s no harsh lines.

Step 6:

Then get your eye concealer and put it under the eye to hide any dark circles or redness. By putting concealer on your eyelids and underneath them, it helps keep eyeshadows on for longer too.

Step 7:

Get a big fluffy blusher or powder brush and get some setting powder and sweep it across your face. This will keep all your makeup in place and last all day!
