Cath Kidston founded the company Cath Kidston Limited in 1993. Specialising in vintage designs bursting with classic English culture. These trademark floral designs are what the company is best known for. With ranges in clothing, furniture, bags and childrenswear everyone can appreciate these wonderful products.
This story begins during the founder’s childhood, one of four children Cath Kidson was fun and extremely inquisitive. She was always looking for new things to discover and create. When she reached the age of 18 she made the move to London to achieve her dreams. For a short time this saw her working for Nicky Haslem an interior designer.
This led to a development; an independent venture into interior design. A small curtain shop named Mckinney Kidston. Not long after this Cath Kidston Limited was born. With a knack for giving items a vintage look with a contemporary feel.
The first store which opened its door in 1994 in Holland Park, London set the ball rolling. This shop sold pretty tea towels and wonderful flea market furniture that had been painstakingly resorted by the woman herself.
The late 1990s saw the company expand though London. During this time Cath was always on the lookout for inspiration for her collections, she came up with many new prints including Stanley. The iconic Cath Kidston dog.
As the business became more and more successful the company strategically searched out smart investments in order to not become overwhelmed.
A majority share of 65% was sold to TA associates in 2010. This allowed her to focus on the thing she loves best, creating. Since then Cath Kidston Limited has launched two catalogues a year and has more collections than ever.
At the start of this year there were almost 140 outlets and stores worldwide including the flagship store down London’s infamous Piccadilly Road. A small number of stores are also in business in China, Hong Kong and Spain. These expansions are showing no sign of stopping.
