About Musto

Musto, global leading sailing and country sports apparel brand, has built a technical sailing fashion empire founded on a history of innovation in developing attire for sportspeople who perform on water. Musto has been the front-runner in sailing apparel manufacturing for over half a century, engineering first-rate sailing, equestrian and shooting kits that keep sailors, horseback riders and shooters comfortable and dry.

The concept behind the company was triggered by Keith Musto's discomfort in wearing traditional sailing clothing, which slowed him down in competitions. He put forward a proposal in 1964 for two sailing clothing manufacturers, in which he championed the idea of improving their design, and when he was met with disinterest, he decided to launch his own sailing clothing line. The company piggybacked the technological breakthroughs of the '70s that were making sailing an increasingly adventurous sport, and developed better and better products to keep up with sailors' needs, based on a corporate culture which rewarded dedication and team work.

In 1976, Musto launched the Deck Coat, now an iconic sailing jacket, which has been improved continuously, but maintained its classic look. In 1977, it introduced the championship over-alls and the one piece suit featuring a visor, models which were promoted not by marketing stunts, but by word of mouth and champion endorsement. Musto was one of the first UK companies to incorporate fleece in their designs, and it created a prototype for The Snug as early as 1978. Five years later, Keith Musto designed the first two-piece drysuit. By 1985, more than half the crews on the yachts competing in the Whitbread Race were geared up with Musto clothing. In 1986, Keith Musto spotted the opportunity to expand its market base to include equestrian sportsmen, and in 1999 it expanded even further and confidently entered the realm of country clothing manufacturing. Less than three years later, the country collection already included thermals and the patented Musto 3-layer system. In 2006, Musto launched the Evolution collection with Gore Tex, Polartec, and Primaloft fabrics with cutting-edge Spandex, Lycra and SPF technology.

Musto has been supplying the Royal National Lifeboat Institution for a quarter of a century. It won the British Council Design Award for Ocean Clothing for the one-piece dry-suit in 1987, and has ever since been providing deck attire to the greatest performers in sailing.

Musto Product Care when using their products
Musto pride themselves on providing clothes, accessories and equipment which is fine for all weather conditions. However, because they've done that, they need to know that their customers will be following the handy tips below to ensure that they keep them in top shape.

Waterproofs:
-Once worn, make sure you rinse it with cold, clean water and hang to dry.
-Do not store it wet to dry otherwise it will smell.

Drysuits:
-Similar to above, make sure you rinse it down with fresh water, and hang to dry.
-Cover the latex seals with talcum powder

Footwear:
-Once you've been out with them, get a non-detergent and get some warm soapy water and wipe them down and rinse with clean water.
-Then leave them to dry and store them away, away from heat sources or sunlight.
