About Asda

Asda Groceries

The story of how Asda became one of the UKs most successful supermarket giants begins in Yorkshire with a group of farmers when they founded Hindell’s Dairies in the 1920s. This venture was very successful and in 1949 the company became known as Associated Dairies and Farm Stores Ltd.

Skip forward to 1958 and Peter and Fred Asquith opened a self-service supermarkets, they were much more like the supermarkets we know today and fast became popular thanks to their long hours and permanent reductions.

In 1965 the brothers found that they wished to expand their busy business yet needed some financial backing. Welcome back Associated Dairies and Farm Stores Ltd. The mixing of the two company’s names led to the stores being named Asda. It wasn’t long before the Asquith brothers were brought out and Asda had full control.
